Hartwell Players
Introducing Melbourne’s longest running community theatre company:
Rehearsing locally and performing at Ashwood HighSchool since 2001,
Hartwell Players Inc, is a local community theatre company. It exists to create opportunities for people to expand and continue their interest in performing arts. Involvement encourages development of skills and confidence in performance, exploration of production and management, chances to act, direct, design and costume, and also opportunities for public relations and marketing via front of house, graphic design and visual display.
At Hartwell Players new members are always welcome and as we offer a diverse range of plays each year, there really is something for everybody. Annually we present a family-focussed Summer holiday season, usually with roles and ensemble for younger performers, Shakespeare, a season of one act plays – frequently incorporating a youth production and original, locally written plays – and since moving to Ashwood High School we have also aimed to present a fourth season which is a full length comedy or drama.
SO if you just can’t get enough drama and theatrics in your life, please seek us out. Aside from a chance to act, we have opportunities for aspiring musicians, composers, writers, designers, costume makers, make-up artists, hair stylists and more....
It’s inexpensive, fun and friendly. Find out more by visiting http://www.hartwellplayers.org.au, or email info@hartwellplayers.org.au
Permaculture Food Garden
The Ashwood Permaculture Food Garden (ACPFG) is a community garden located on 2,370 square metres of state school land in Ashwood, Melbourne.
At the ACPFG you can wander around the garden, stop by the pergola, pizza oven and shade house, take a guided tour, attend an educational workshop and much more. You can also don your garden gloves, boots and hat and get stuck into some gardening! Food grown in the garden is shared among the volunteers who work in the garden. Food and attendance are free.
When: the ACPFG is open every Wednesday morning from 9 till 12 and on Saturday mornings from 10 till 12.
Garden Club is an activity run for students during Wednesday’s lunchtime. It is open to all students. We usually light a fire in the pizza oven, so feel free to bring food to cook in the oven. We have a jaffle iron, so you can toast a sandwich. We do have mains drinking water in the garden.
The ACPFG is self-funding with regular sales of woodchip mulch, small plants and gardening education. You can help the garden by buying mulch ($10 per trailer load), plants and by attending practical, hands-on workshops.
Find out more about what’s on at the ACPFG on our Facebook page.
