The transition from primary school to secondary school can be challenging. We begin the transition process in the primary years though curriculum exchange experiences which see Ashwood High School students working with various primary school students through various programs.
Primary school students attending Ashwood High School are an integral part of the school program as they gear up to attend secondary school. We offer information evenings, an orientation day and interviews as part of the transition process. To maximise your child’s educational potential through their transition from primary to secondary school we seek feedback from primary school teachers and the parents of Year 6 students
Initiatives such as a Peer Support Program with trained Year 10 students leading small group activities help new students enter an environment that is creative but well-regulated and supportive. The school has a House structure which supports cross-age mentoring and relationships across the school. Our top priority in these transition years is to build a culture of mutual trust and respect, where students become confident, independent learners.
Right from the start we encourage students to go further than they or their parents thought possible. We help them break through self-imposed limits. We do this with our specialised support programs, accelerated vertical learning pathways and individual learning plans.
We know that choosing a school is a critical decision for parents and that a school’s environment and standard of education will impact on your child’s future. Thank you for considering Ashwood High School for your child’s learning journey.
The Department of Education and Training (DET) provides government schools with a timeline for the Transition to Year 7 enrolment process.
Please note: all communication is via your Primary School throughout this process and is different to the school’s enrolment process on a day to day basis.
Year 6 into Year 7 Enrolments: Expression of Interest form is normally completed through the student’s current primary school (see above).
